COVID-19 Response from IMD's CEO

"Florencia Bialet, Co-Founder and CEO at Illustrate My Design takes a moment to reflect on the past four weeks of the COVID-19 impact and provides tips for dealing with our current circumstances. We also have a surprise appearance by Florencia's son, Sebastian, who enjoyed being a part of the video.

Hi, this is Florencia coming to you from my home office. Well, here we are at Week 4 of the COVID-19 impact and the #stayhome effort.

How are you doing? It’s likely we’ve all been too busy adjusting to the change.  I recommend we take a moment to ask ourselves how we’re doing and reflect on recent changes.

When the Coronavirus made its first impact in the US, it found us busy with life and all the usual happenings at IMD. As the #stayhome campaign became mainstream…IMD quickly moved to 100% remote work.

We had recently welcomed two newly relocated staff, who were in the midst of searching for new homes, one of our staff was in the midst of a trans-Atlantic move, and we have welcomed our first team member to go through a 100% virtual on-boarding experience. During this time, We have successfully continued to work on projects and keep in touch with our network, and later this month we’ll celebrate our first staff birthday during COVID-19.

While sometimes it feels like the world has stopped spinning and there’s silence like never before, the busy days at IMD remind us that there’s still a lot happening during this time.

Inevitably, our world and our lives will be different after this experience.

For all you planners out there, I recommend staying flexible and focusing on the positives. I suggest you shorten the time frame you plan for, by focusing more on the near future. I encourage you to plan for a month, where before you planned for the quarter.  Instead of planning for the year, plan for 90 days. In rapidly changing conditions such as these, planning the near future can offer structure and sense of control.

COVID 19 has not only impacted IMD, everyone across Our industry and beyond are experiencing a new reality.

While we're on that note, I’d like to give a shout out to the American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI), and all our peers out there are also feeling this change. I want to acknowledge that many in our industry work alone Or in very small teams, and I just want you to know IMD is here for you. I welcome you to reach out if we can support you in any way.

I encourage us all to be present today. Tomorrow will work itself out.

With great adversity, comes incredible opportunity, and I see a spark of innovation and creativity among our team already!

Together, we’ll get through this, and I’m certain we’ll come out on the other end of this better than we were before.

I’m here for you, and our team is stronger than ever.

I look forward to seeing you online.
