Celebrating Women in Architecture

A business owner and Architect, Nicole Hollant-Denis is a powerhouse.

Nicole Hollant-Denis, AIA, NOMA, NCARB is the owner of Aaris Design Architects. For the past 20 years, she and her team have worked all over NYC’s five boroughs. Ever since she was little, Nicole wanted to be an artist. Eventually, she decided to commit her artistic skills to a more practical career field, was accepted into Cornell’s architecture program, and never looked back. While studying the history of architecture, Nicole realized that she wasn't learning much about the history behind the culture in architecture and design, including her African heritage. She did an independent study on architecture and historical backgrounds to combat this and attributes much of what she learned from that course to her culturally relevant approach to design today. Therefore, for every project, when there is an opportunity to do something culturally related, Nicole and her team try to understand that culture and show it in a celebratory way. When it comes to having a family as a woman with a high-powered career, Nicole believes it is possible if you have a clear time management and support plan. She is excited that work-from-home opportunities make it easier for women to balance careers and family lives. When asked about the future of architecture for women, Nicole knows that the future is bright.
